Time for a re launch

The diner has been closed for awhile now...I'm thinking maybe I should re open it. Been hanging around on Facebook but I find I miss having coffee here. My friend Christine has inspired me, so maybe I'll have to re-open...

The health department was here...

And they've temporarily closed the diner. Well, it was bound to happen-what with the insect infestation and all. But, like a failing bank, we've re-opened for business under a new name. See ya later!

Dogs n stuff

Well, lots been going on lately. Mr. G is monitoring the remains of the Easter turkey (I'm a baaaddd dog!) Miss Moo is relaxing on the deck (before we got 6 inches of snow 2 days ago) It's supposed to be sunny and 65. Ick. The poor flowers are all blooming in the snow out there. Pffttt. It's supposed to warm up over the next couple days. Hopefully, there will be tons of stuff to take pictures of soon!

Miss Moo was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with Addison's disease. Apparently, her adrenal glands are non exisistent at this point, so consequently, she will needs hormone replacement shots and pills for the rest of her life. This appears to be more common than I ever realized; I'd never even heard of it in dogs before. Thankfully, the drug manufacturer is going to work with us to get a nice discount on the one medicine she needs-if this had not happened, we would have had to put her down as the shots are $200 a month FOREVER. We qualified for this program as she is a rescue dog. Thank God! So far she is doing well; we have to go back next week for some blood work and they may adjust the amount of meds she's on. We'll see what happens. Poor thing! She was pretty sick for awhile, but she's doing much better and feeling good.

I'm thinking about going to school to get an Associate's in Applied Science and getting into the vet tech. field. All this stuff with the dog has kinda peaked my interest-actually I can always remember wanting to work with animals, but life happened and I never had time to do anything about it. There are some good on-line schools you can do this thru-work at your own pace kinda stuff, which works for me-this way I can work around work (which isn't doing much right now anyway) but I can get it done in under 2 years. And the cost is reasonable. I suppose it's time I figure out what I want to be when I grow up! Just a thought...have a good weekend!

Punkin head

What a face! He's really a sweet dog...a little too interested in the cats-especially when there's food about, so we'll have to see how that progresses..And he's got a few interesting quirks-the trash can is a great place to find snacks, the toilet is for drinking out of (he even knows how to open the lid), getting in the shower with people may be a lot of fun...he's such a lover though-pet me, snuggle with me. He's going to make a good friend for someone!

The foster child

This is Goliath-I picked him up yesterday. He's going to hang out here for awhile; we're fostering him for the St. Bernard rescue. This poor thing has got to be one of the most pathetic animals I have ever seen. He's a large Saint; right now he weighs about 125-he should weigh about 170. His head is bigger than a basketball and his paws are like baseball mitts. You can see every bone in his body and his head looks like it belongs on someone else. Compounding the problem is the fact that they had to shave off all of his hair; it was matted to his skin and couldn't be bathed out or brushed. Apparently, his owners moved and rather than take him with, they tied him to a tree in the back yard and left him. Animal control finally picked him up but everyone thinks he'd been there awhile, given his emaciated state. Either that or his owner stopped feeding him. He is a very sweet dog; he loves affection and listens pretty well. He is VERY hungry all the time (no doubt) and he walks around whining and crying a lot. He really is a good boy. Hopefully, he will find a great "forever home". But for now, I'm going to make him a few dozen cheeseburgers and a chocolate cake. (Not really-but I'd like to) I don't understand how someone could do that, especially as there are so many rescue groups that would have picked him up. Ninny Moo is really mad-she's currently not speaking to me-she was fine when he was out in the yard but she doesn't appreciate his presence in the house. I'd imagine they'll work it out; she gets in his face and barks at him and he looks at her like "What??". They all have their own personalities.
It's supposed to be 72 degrees here today-WOO HOO!!! It's gonna get cold again, but that's ok. All my tulips, daffodils and crocus are coming up. NO MORE WINTER!!

Think they're sick of it too??

Today we have a virtual cornucopia of weather phenomenon-rain, hail, ice chunks, thunder storms, and it will finally end with snow. Good grief, I want to close the drapes, go to sleep, and wake up in April. The bears have the right idea... Posted by Picasa

Ninny girl

She's sleeping like this; honestly, she is such a good girl. I've heard horror stories about people adopting dogs from shelters-I think we got really lucky. Heaven help me, we're actually considering getting her a "friend" to play with...she's very puppy-ish in a lot of respects and I think she needs another dog to pal around with. I don't know yet...sweet Poppy girl. I just can't wait till it warms up so we can be outside. Right now it's about -5 with a wind chill of -25. ICK.
